Reader/Writer Security Adapter

Overview

The Argus 300 Reader/Writer security adapter is a tamper-resistant single ISA or PCI board solution with an external smart card reader. With a FIPS 140-1, Level 3 federal government validation, Argus 300 provides a high level of access security and confidential communication authentication for businesses conducting electronic commerce.

The Argus 300 is a high-performance customizable system that offers users a range of features such as boot protection, discretionary access control and DES-based data encryption and authentication. The Argus 300 offers split knowledge/dual control technology for the most controlled and secure document signing. This option requires the insertion of two smart cards in order to digitally sign and authorize electronic communications of high value, offering a reliable and high level of online document and transaction security.

The Argus 300 security system verifies a PIN without having the PC's microprocessor forward the PIN to the smart card. This Protected PIN Path capability insures that digital identification and authentication of the signer(s) is directed to the smart card, eliminating the possibility of false user identification / authentication from the PC. Special key pads or keyboards are not required, as the Argus 300 securely uses the PC's standard keyboard.

The Argus Series FORTEZZA PC Card Reader/Writers work with all certified FORTEZZA Crypto Cards, including the Moniker® Crypto Card. Argus Series Reader/Writers provide enhanced security for applications such as access control, secure communications, and electronic signatures. For more demanding applications, the Argus Series is available with the Multi-Access CI Library (MACI Library) to provide concurrent server support for multiple and/or multi-threaded applications accessing various cryptographic devices. With multi-tasking operating systems, several applications can be run concurrently while utilizing one or multiple FORTEZZA PC Cards.
